Bringing the benefits of digital agriculture to all: FAO joins Digital Public Goods Alliance

Today, the DPGA announces The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) as our latest member. FAO’s membership underscores their commitment to help develop and utilise open-source IT products that will benefit food and agriculture and contribute to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

FAO’s membership will build on existing efforts within the DPG ecosystem, including contributions to DPGA communities of practice on Climate Services and Digital Financial Inclusion, and their efforts to have FAO’s digital products recognised as digital public goods, like the Hand-in-Hand Geospatial Platform, the FAO Digital Services Portfolio, Water Productivity WAPOR, and Open FORIS.  

FAO strives to positively influence the food and agriculture ecosystem towards creating and using digital public goods, will continue to identify existing and potential DPGs within the FAO Digital Portfolio, and create a FAO Digital Public Goods Framework. Additionally, through their membership, FAO will co-chair a new community of practice focused on food security, which will produce a knowledge product to guide countries and digital practitioners.
